Making a Difference Every Day

Angie
On the day before my son’s first birthday, I underwent emergency ostomy surgery that saved my life and forever changed it. I was given 24 hours to live at just 22 years old and what could have been the end of my story became the beginning of my purpose.
I have lived boldly as an ostomate building a career, breaking barriers, serving my community, loving my family, and refusing to let shame silence my journey.
I founded Blessed With A Bag because I know firsthand the fear, isolation, and financial hardship that can come with living with an ostomy. No one should choose between dignity and survival. Through awareness, education, advocacy, and supply support, my mission is to ensure that every ostomate knows they are seen, supported, and never alone.
My life was spared for a reason and that reason is to bring hope, courage, and practical help to others walking this path.
MORE ABOUT ANGIE
Living with an ostomy for more than four decades, I refused to let my diagnosis limit my life. Instead, it became the foundation of my strength.
Spending 18 years at Second National Bank of Warren, I built a distinguished professional career and made history as the first African American female officer in the bank’s 100-year history. Later I served as Assistant Vice President in Community Development where I led initiatives that strengthened neighborhoods and uplifted families.
Continuing my leadership journey with Great Lakes Cheese, I served in administrative roles for 10 years.
But my greatest calling grew from my lived experience. As a long-standing member of the United Ostomy Associations of America (UOAA), a board member of the Cleveland Ostomy Support Group, and an active member of the Youngstown Ostomy Support Group, I have worked to normalize the conversation around ostomies. In 2023, I was recognized by the UOAA as a top fundraiser and for hosting one of the largest Virtual Run for Resilience 5K gatherings in the nation.
In 2024, I founded Blessed With A Bag, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing awareness, hope, education, and critical supply support to ostomates facing financial hardship. My mission is deeply personal: to ensure that no one living with an ostomy feels alone, unseen, or unsupported.
Above all, I am a devoted wife of 40 years to my husband, Bruce, a proud mother to James, mother-in-love to Kimberley, and grandmother to Jaxon Karter Davenport. My journey is rooted in family, strengthened by faith, and driven by the belief that survival is not the end of the story it is the beginning of purpose.
Through advocacy, mentorship, and unwavering transparency, it is my goal to transform what many see as a medical condition into a message of courage, dignity, and hope.
